Cincinnati Parks Team Visits Washington

On November 17-19, Park Board Director Willie Carden and his team traveled to Washington to meet with senior U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials and key Congressional decision makers, including House Water Resources and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Bob Gibbs (R-OH), advocating for an increase in the federal authorization for the Smale Riverfront Park. [NOTE: on March 4, 2014, the project received a special appropriations of $4.5 million in FY 2014 funds to complete the project’s $30 million WRDA 2007 authorization.] Park Board Director Willie Carden and his team met with Army Corps headquarters officials, Senator Portman, Rep. Gibbs, Rep. Chabot, Senator Brown’s staff and Rep. Wenstrup’s staff. Bill Hanka and Ron Hamm worked with the Parks Team to arrange the schedule and compile the strategy and talking points for the meetings.
